Top 10 Romantasy Books According to BookTok!

The genre that conquered our hearts (and For You Pages)

I’ve been spending way too much time on social media lately. Like, way too much!

I’m genuinely afraid to look at the screen stats on my phone, because I secretly know what it’s going to say - you’re always on TikTok! And to be fair, I am. I’ve been trying to grow the His and Hers Book Club presence across socials, and I’m proud to say we now have over 3000 followers on TikTok and at least 3 of them are not bots!

You can probably imagine which part of TikTok I’ve been spending most of my time in - BookTok. And, if there’s one corner of BookTok that refuses to let us breathe normally, it’s the romantasy book scene. A magical blend of high-stakes fantasy and heart-melting romance. And wildly inappropriate, potentially scarring, definitely mildly disturbing love scenes. Yes, you know the ones I’m talking about, don’t you deny it!

Now, whether it’s dragon riders smoldering across training grounds or bat-boys who really need to learn about communication, romantasy is the genre right now. Heck, even guys are jumping on the romantasy wagon, if I’m anything to judge by.

Over the past few years, hashtags like #romantasybook, #booktokmademebuyit, and #fourthwing have exploded into the billions of views. Readers aren’t just reading. They’re gasping, highlighting, annotating, and crying into their tea while posting it all online. And they’re doing some other things, sometimes in VERY public places, which we won’t talk about. Ever.

BookTok has become the beating heart of this genre, catapulting unknown authors to bestseller lists overnight. But what makes a romantasy story so addictive, and which ones are actually worth your next reading binge?

For no other reason than “productive procrastination”, I’ve scoured BookTok’s viral videos over the last couple of years to bring you the Top 10 Romantasy Books According to BookTok. So take a look at a list that goes beyond the hype and gets to why these stories live rent-free in our minds.

What Makes a Romantasy Book?

It’s not fantasy with romance — it’s romance in fantasy

A simple, yet very important distinction. In a true romantasy book, the love story isn’t an afterthought; it’s the emotional engine that drives the plot further. The kingdom might be burning, but we’re here for the two characters sneaking glances across the ashes.

The best examples fuse world-building with slow-burn tension. Magic systems fuel metaphors for love, fate, or power. The result? A perfect storm of peril and pining.

The tropes that made BookTok explode

Enemies-to-lovers. Forced proximity. “There’s only one bed in here.” If you can name the trope, BookTok has turned it into a viral sound. Add gorgeous covers, emotional quotes, and readers reacting in real time, and you have a recipe for a cultural takeover. And a ton of memes, obviously.

What the current lists missed

Most “best romantasy” roundups cram in twenty-plus titles with brief blurbs. What they miss is why each book set BookTok ablaze, and the exact moment readers screamed into their pillows. This article tries to fill that gap. We’re looking at the crème de la crème here, so let’s see what it takes to make it to a top 10 romantasy books list on BookTok!

How We Chose Our Top 10

Obviously, I had help. I’m addicted to TikTok, but at the end of the day, I’m just a man. Hence, I also required some MUCH needed female perspective. So I called in the heavy artillery: my wife and her cohort of fanatic romantasy readers. The unholy list they came back with balances mega-viral titles with a few emerging gems you’ll soon see all over your feed.

Our criteria:

  • BookTok virality (hashtags, video views, fan art)

  • Central romantic arc driving the fantasy plot

  • Goodreads + TikTok buzz (2022–2025)

  • Diversity in tone: from dark and spicy to cozy and charming

What we skipped:

We left out pure fantasies that just flirt with romance. These ten are the full-throttle, scream-into-your-pillow kind.
